(原标题:Skateboarding Fuels 10-Billion-Yuan Industry: Huizhou Makes About 40% of Global High-End Skateboards)
By Zheng Quanyi, SFC, 21st Century Business Herald
On November 16, a press conference was held in Guangzhou during China's 15th National Games, inviting officials from Foshan, Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, and Zhongshan to jointly introduce their cities' sporting characteristics, event operation support, and sports industry development.
As one of the key cities in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, Huizhou successfully hosted events including taekwondo, roller skating, and skateboarding matches of the 15th National Games. In the four skateboarding competitions, Huizhou athletes won an impressive total of three gold medals and one bronze. The strength of skateboarding goes far beyond the competition itself and extends deep into the industry. Huizhou is leveraging skateboarding as a pivot to drive the rapid growth of a 10-billion-yuan industry. As a significant manufacturing hub for high-end skateboards in China and globally, skateboarding products from Huizhou now account for nearly 40% of the world's premium skateboard market share.
Huizhou skateboarding athlete Zheng Haohao said in an interview with SFC journalist that "Competing in the 15th National Games feels particularly reassuring because it's on home turf. I also took part in the National Games four years ago, and being able to compete again four years later feels like fulfilling a childhood dream."
