Marco Polo’s screenwriter: Marco Polo becomes a participant to communicate different civilizations

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Italy. At the same time, in order to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the death of the legendary Italian traveler Marco Polo, the Guangzhou Grand Theater recently re-staged the original opera "Marco Polo". The play is performed on May 3rd and 4th.

On May 2, a reporter from 21st Century Business Herald visited the theater to visit the crew. Marco Polo’s screenwriter Wei Jin introduced his thoughts on shaping the character of Marco Polo to the reporter. Wei Jin said that the opera is based on a real historical figure and adds some suspended writing that is in line with his style and ethos. This kind of Marco Polo is different from the symbolic and solidified traveler in the past, but has become a participant and witness in the exchanges between Chinese and Western civilizations.
